There is only so much I can say about the Intended Parents out of respect for both of our private information. What I will say is that I was drawn to them instantly. Their story, their struggle, their perseverance resonated with why I decided to become a surrogate in the first place. I remember calling my agency and asking to begin communication with this family. I was a little shocked by the ease that the agency allowed communication. Previously, surrogates and IPs only communicated their interest through the agency, they met in a mediated match meeting, and then they did not speak again until contracts were signed. We were allowed a more open format of communication, and I definitely felt more at ease being able to communicate with them in this fashion. Within a few times of communicating, I was comfortable telling my agency that I wanted to schedule an in-person meeting with them. We all met up at the office: agency, myself, and parents. We had a fun and positive conversation that helped us all relay our desires, worries, and expectations for the process. At the end of it, we were told to take some time to think about whether or not this was a good fit and to let the agency know. Within a day, both they and I contacted our agency to confirm we wanted to go on this journey together. With the match made, it was onto final medical evals and contracts before jumping off into this wild adventure together.
